Per Bacco is a producer of premium wine based in the Edna Valley. Long time friends Marco Rizzo, owner of Cafe' Roma Restaurant in San Luis Obispo and Craig Shannon, a third generation vineyard manager, had long spoken about making wine together. They had dreams of putting together the best possible fruit with solid winemaking in order to produce wines of distinction.

Opportunity struck when an older chardonnay vineyard in the southern portion of the Edna Valley came up for lease, and they jumped at the chance to farm it. The fruits of their labor and dreams payed off when their 2000 Edna Valley Chardonnay scored 90 points in the Wine Enthusiast. They branched out with their next two varietals Pinot Noir and Pinot Grigio. Within a few years they had been rated 90 pts. on all three of their first varietals.

Currently Per Bacco Cellars produces Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and Pinot Noir and limited production runs of Sangiovese, Syrah, Petite Sirah and a dry Rose'.

Per Bacco Cellars' tasting room is located on the historic Filipponi Ranch, just off the 101 freeway and Los Osos Valley Road. Here you can sample our hand-crafted, limited production wines which include: Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Sangiovese, Petite Sirah and late-harvest Zinfandel.


You will taste among the barrels of the winery which offers a very unique opportunity in Edna Valley. The tasting room is set in the winery where you can often see winemaking in action. Depending on the time of year you can even get "tanked' with a tank sample of the Pinot Grigio.

After wine tasting try your hand at bocce ball or horseshoes set alongside our seasonal creek. We also have a picnic area set in the beautiful wooded canyon right out the tasting room doors.
